Music Video Planning - Female Clothing

I will also need to choose the clothing for my female star of my music video. As The Kooks are of a indie theme I will need to make sure that my female is also of an indie theme. This is because I am trying to aim my video at The Kook fans and if i was to use quite a chavvy girl instead of an indie girl this will not appeal to the fans of The Kooks.

Female
My female could be dressed in a pretty smock dress or a top and trouser. By me using a floral smock dress this instantly gives a indie look, as does this top. I have also used clothing that is a little more busy, this is because the song is being sang all about this girl, therefore I do not want her to blend into the background.

I have chosen to either put my girl in jeans or tights depending on what I would like to make her wear on top. I have chosen this because I think that if i choose plain and simple clothing for the bottom I will be able to make her stand out but not too much. This is why I have chosen to use nude simple colours, although at the same time quite bold colours.

I have chosen these types of shoes because I feel that they instantly reflect the indie look that I am trying to go for. Again, i have chosen quite plain colours due to them being quite subtle shoes and if I added too much colour to the outfit I'd take away the theme of the song.

I have chosen to look at hair accessories as I feel that this can be seen as a statement piece of the outfit. However I i decided to use a busy kind of top/dress then I will not be able to have the girl wearing a statement headband. This is because it will become too much, as in my video I'd like to make the girl stand out, however in a subtle way.

I have chosen simple however statement jewellery. This is because the girl in the video is going to be presented as quite glamourous. I have done this because the song is about a girl who is insecure about the way that she look, and she wants to be glamourous like the people in the magazines. Therefore she will begin to copy them.

Music Video Planning - Male Clothing

When I come to film my video I only have two people present. For the male, I will need to choose his clothing carefully to represent the 'indie' theme that I have researched. Clothing stores that will have the sort of clothing I aim to use are ASOS.com and Topman etc.

Male

These are the different kinds of tops that I will be looking into using for the male that will be in my video. I have chose these as I think that they provide a plain and simple indie look, I have also used plain clothing because I do not want to take the attention from the background of the video.

These are two different styles that could be warn to give the indie look, however I will have to consider the how tight the mac or blazer is as this may restrain them when they are strumming their guitar.

Either of these styles of trouser would be suitable for my music video, this is because the 'indie' look tends to have men wearing skinny trousers/jeans.

These are the different types of shoes that I would expect an indie guy to wear. Either of these would be suitable for me to use in my music video.

Music Video Planning - Creating My Set

In my video I am going to be mimicking a bedroom and to do this i am going to need props to make things believable.

I have chosen to put something like this within my set because I need to make the room girlie as the owner of the room is a girl. I think accessories like this will work well to mimic this. I will represented a girls room by using bright and bold colours such as pink and red etc.

These are just some common things that you would find in a female teenagers bedroom.

These are things that will stereotypically be found in a females bedroom

Music Video Planning - Location

I have decided to film my music video in my school. I have chosen to do this as I will be able to have access to lighting etc. I plan to use the drama hall to mimic a bedroom. I am going to do this by putting curtains up around a small space to then dress up as a bedroom. I will include a bed etc in the bedroom to make it life like.

These are photos of the drama hall at my school. Although in some of the photos there are things on the wall these will not matter to me as i will be using a small space in the middle of the hall to mimic my bedroom. Within this room there is an up to date lighting system that I am going to use that forms various colour, I have not yet decided what colour lighting to use however at the moment I assume it will just be clear light an possibly some red.

Music Video Planning - Storyboard

I have began to work on my story boarding for my music video. I believe that there will be around 30-35 scenes that I will be filming to give my song a purpose. I have decided to story board the video as a story that involves a young girl aged between 16-20 that has a low self esteem as she thinks that she's not perfect as she spends all of her time reading too far into the magazines that are in the marketed to this age group. The story then goes on to show that the lead singer of The Kooks (Luke Pritchard) thinks that the young girl, in his eyes is perfect and that she doesn't need to change. The story finishes with her falling in love with Luke and in essence living happily ever after just the way she is.

Ancillary Task 2 - The Kooks Music Magazine.

This is the final of my music magazine. I have kept the same theme as their 'Konk' album as I find this is suitable as I am advertising the 'Konk' album. Also by me doing this consumers will recognise the theme and relate it to The Kooks. I have slightly changed the layout of 'The Kooks and 'Konk' this is because although I want consumers to recognise that it's The Kooks i still want to differentiate it.

The picture I have used is the same photo as the picture on the front of The Kooks however I have used a different effect which was called 'Paint Daubs' again, I decided to add an effect to hide their faces as these will not be used in my music video.

When I came to put this onto my final disc, I decided to put my black and white version on to theire as i feel it matches the Kooks theme more.

Ancillary Task 2 - The Kooks Music Magazine.

This is the first draft of my music magazine advert. I am yet to add on the reviews to my advert. I am going to give the album reviews from companies that will actually have an interest in The Kooks such as Q, NME and the guardian.

Ancillary Task 2 - Q Music Magazine

The music magazine which I think The Kooks will be best represented in is 'Q'. Q is popular in the Uk and is very indie biased which relates to The Kooks genre. Also they have already had interviews for the magazine.

Although Q magazine entails a lot of indie based advertising they also write about all different genres. Q Magazine also establishes itself with more established and well know artists which The Kooks are.

Below are some advertisements that i photographed from Q magazine.

Ancillary Task 2 - Music Magazine.

A music magazine is a magazine dedicated to music and music culture. Such magazines typically include music news, interviews, photo shoots, essays, record reviews, concert reviews and occasionally have a covermount with recorded music.

Music magazines were very prolific in the United Kingdom, with the NME (short for New Musical Express) leading the pack since its first issue in 1952. NME had a longstanding rival in Melody Maker, an even older publication which had existed since 1926, however by 2001 falling circulation and the rise of internet music sites caused the Melody Maker to be absorbed into its old rival and cease publishing. Several other British magazines such as Select and Sounds also folded between 1990 and 2000.
Current UK music magazines include Q, Kerrang! and Mojo (all published by EMAP). Magazines with a focus on pop music rather than rock and aimed at a younger market include the now-defunct Smash Hits and the BBC's Top of the Pops, which outlived the television show on which it was based.

Major music magazines in the United States include Rolling Stone (founded in 1967) and Spin (founded in 1985). Clash was voted 'Music Magazine of the Year' in 2004 and is the second largest UK online presence , Clash was also Awarded Magazine of the Year at the PPA Scotland Awards.
